An interactive whiteboard comprises an enamelled steel board and a projector that transmits the image from the connected computer to the board surface. Up to two people can work together on the projection using their fingers or an interactive pen. The board surface can also be used analogically.

An interactive touch display is an all-in-one device. Thanks to the integrated Android operating systems, it can be used directly as a digital board – by several people at the same time and independently of each other. It also has internet access. All of the Windows applications are available via a connected slide-in or mini PC or an external computer. Content from mobile terminal devices, such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone can be transmitted to the display, and comments can be added there and then shared again with the terminal devices. 

Thanks to the Android operating systems, every interactive touch display is ready for instant use. The basic equipment of these digital boards includes a whiteboard mode, a web browser, a screen share function, a playback function for images, videos and files, which can be uploaded via an external data carrier, and file management. Depending on the manufacturer, there are also other applications.

To be able to work with Windows programs, a Windows computer must be connected to the display: a slide-in PC, a mini PC or an external computer, either a desktop or laptop. This greatly expands the options for teachers and learners. The display is then a reproduction medium and also a working surface, due to the touch function.

You therefore have access to all the teaching materials you have used in the past, expanded by digital offerings from any text book publishers and the internet.

Direct mounting on the wall is recommended if the height of the display does not have to be variable – for example, because all of the people using it are roughly the same height or because the display will only be controlled remotely by a mouse and a keyboard on a tablet or laptop.

A floor-and-wall-mounted delivery system involves a fixed stand and takes up very little space. Its location prescribes the orientation of the room. In this case, the display is always height-adjustable and can be supplemented with board surfaces – depending on the type of height adjustment.

The height of mobile delivery systems can be adjusted by means of a gas spring. They are available with additional storage space. The display can be supplemented by board panels on the side. The delivery system is fitted with push handles on the right and left so that it can be moved around. To prevent damage in transit, the display should be completely lowered when passing through doors. 

Height adjustments with counterweights are only available for floor-and-wall-mounted delivery systems. They can be operated easily, continuously and without maintenance. They are adjusted via ball-bearing-mounted rollers and counterweights attached to steel cables inside the pillars. A chalk rest below the display acts as a shelf and, at the same time, is a handle for height adjustment. Pivotable board panels can be attached to the main frame on the right and left; alternatively, you can have a centrally located wide board surface, the height of which is adjusted separately. The height adjustment is designed so that you cannot reach in. There is therefore no risk of injury.

Gas-spring-based height adjustment is available for floor-and-wall-mounted delivery systems and for mobile delivery systems, but only without board panels. With this system, the display can be very easily continuously raised and lowered. It is adjusted using the full-length handle on the front and takes very little strength, meaning that even children can adjust the display. The rear of the system is enclosed, meaning that there is no risk of injury. It also enables safe wiring.

Electric motor height adjustments are only available for floor-and-wall-mounted delivery systems. Adjustment is continuous using a manual switch. A sensor integrated in the drive columns prevents the display colliding with an obstacle, for example a chair, while moving. Electric motor drive columns are integrated in the pillars. The pillar system has a support frame with special mounting rails to which the display is attached. The rear of the delivery system is enclosed, meaning that there is no risk of injury. It also enables safe wiring.

Important: All height adjustments from VS, even those with an electric motor, have a GS Tested Safety certificate according to DIN EN 14434, which is based on 25,000 adjustment cycles.

Here, the touch screen is made of two sheets that are each coated with an electrically conductive layer and separated by an air gap. If you touch the surface of the display by exerting light pressure, the two layers come into contact with each other and a current flows. The touch point can be calculated on the basis of the resulting voltage difference. 

Resistive screens are very affordable, but also susceptible to wear because they react to mechanical stress. In addition, only one touch point can be registered. Gesture control - i.e. zooming in or out with two fingers - is therefore not possible and only one person can work at the display. For this reason, resistive touch displays are no longer used these days.

PCAP (Projective Capacitive) touch screens are fitted with a network of electrodes that project an electromagnetic field onto the surface. If this field is touched with a finger or a special pen, its electrical capacity changes. This change is measured and so identifies the position of the pen or finger.
Thanks to this technology, PCAP screens are very flat and don’t have an annoying frame. In addition, they are highly robust and scratch-proof – the surface is made of toughened safety glass – and can be cleaned easily. But above all, the PCAP technology expands the writing accuracy, the natural writing feeling and the possibility of gesture control. Whether Drag & Drop, zooming or rotating, whether with a pen or a finger – everything works. With up to ten simultaneous touch points.
 If you lean on the screen with the ball of your thumb or other parts of your hand when writing, this is not registered as a touch point. This feature is called ‘Palm Detection’. Children just starting to write benefit from this because they can write, do sums and draw on the PCAP screen like an analogue board or a piece of paper.
