Invisible Helpers What Furniture Gliders from VS Do

Overview of the various replaceable glides for VS chairs
Comfort and aesthetic designs of furniture are important to you: Whether for classrooms and cafeterias in school or university buildings, in your company’s offices or conference rooms, or for events of any kind.
But there is one aspect that you should not ignore: Chair gliders. These invisible helpers are designed to improve the gliding behaviour of the chairs and, at the same time, protect the floor in spite of heavy strain.

What are furniture gliders?

Chair gliders are invisible helpers that you can attach to chair legs. They protect the floor covering and, at the same time, improve the gliding behaviour.

The low noise level should not be ignored, either. They mean that you don’t have to lift your chair up when you want to change your position without making a noise.

Are you looking for suitable chair gliders? Then you’ve come to the right place. Here, you will learn everything you need to know about choosing them.

Advantages of furniture gliders at a glance

  • Improve gliding behaviour

  • Prevent floors from being scratched by chairs (caution: Regularly clean felt gliders and remove dirt particles)

  • Evenly distribute the pressure on the floor when sitting and thus protect it by producing less stress

  • Long-lasting

Specifically for 2K gliders:

  • Reduce noise level

  • Ensure good rolling behaviour

  • Reduce the risk of injury because the chair can slip away less easily, even when it topples

  • Our 2K gliders are explicitly recommended by leading manufacturers of elastic floor coverings

Even though VS chair gliders can last for many years, we recommend that they are checked every six months.

Our tip:
Replace chair gliders in pairs, i.e., both front gliders and/or both back gliders. If one glider is more worn than the other, it can have a negative impact on sitting behaviour and glidability.

Match Furniture Gliders to the floor

VS gliders are available in 3 different materials:
•  2K (two-component plastic)
•  Felt
•  Plastic
We offer these different versions so that you can find the ideal chair glider for every floor - for hard, elastic or soft floor coverings. Because your chairs should not only fit into the room visually; you should also be able to move them easily and noiselessly.

Which furniture gliders do I need?

The material of the glider depends on the floor on which the chairs will stand. With the help of our table, you will find the right VS chair gliders for every use:

Why are plastic gliders unsuitable on hard and smooth floors?

Chair gliders made of plastic can cause scratches on parquet or tiles. Here, grains of sand and dirt particles under the hard glider surface act like sandpaper on the floor and can also damage the glider itself.

Why are felt gliders not ideal for elastic floors?

Although felt gliders can be used on elastic floors, such as PVC and linoleum, We advise that you regularly clean the gliders with a hard brush. Since the felt in VS felt gliders is injected into the glide shoe and isn’t glued, the material cannot come loose. Please also note: if the floor is not cleaned properly, the felt can absorb polish, harden and then cause scratches.

Why are 2K gliders only suitable as an alternative for textile floors?

VS furniture gliders can generally be used universally because they are gentle on the substrate and don’t make much noise. But if you use these chair gliders on carpets, the chairs don't slide quite as smoothly as on other substrates when they are pushed.

Interchangeable gliders – ideal for heavily used furniture

If you use chairs in several rooms, it may be the case that the floor covering also changes. In this case we recommend our 2K chair gliders or our interchangeable gliders.
What can an interchangeable glider do? As the name implies, you can change them very easily when you use your chairs on a different floor covering. As with our conventional chair gliders, we also offer the interchangeable gliders in 3 different materials: felt, plastic and 2K.
This easy replacement is also helpful if you have chairs that are extremely heavily used – especially by different groups of people. If the furniture is heavily used, the chair gliders also wear more quickly. In particular, our PantoSwing, NF-Swing and Level chairs are optionally available with interchangeable gliders – because they are especially popular for use in classrooms or conference rooms.

The glides on the legs of VS chairs can be removed and replaced using a slotted screwdriver.

The Advantages of Our Interchangeable Gliders

•    Easy to replace
•    Can be used flexibly
•    Economical in the long term

Even though the VS interchangeable gliders are slightly more expensive than our conventional gliders, the higher initial investment pays for itself after the first change. This is mainly because you have to invest much less time and effort in replacing the interchangeable gliders. After all, you are renewing just the covering and not the whole glider.
