JustBe brings wood back into the office
Designing furniture - this task only really appeals to Stuttgart architect Stefan Behnisch when he is looking for a suitable product line for one of his buildings. It was different with justBe. He started with the question: What should an office look like that today's young people consider to be a liveable workplace?
The Tabletop
The shape of the tabletop is unique: an asymmetrical trapezoid with a triangular section on one long side. This table is not only visually appealing but also functional: when combined, the tables form a shared centre, allowing partners to work facing each other. This makes communication easy.
The Table Legs
The tapered, diagonally positioned table legs echo the lines of the tabletop, giving the furniture a sense of lightness. The trapezoid shape, triangle, and cone are reflected in other elements of the series as well: from the sideboards to the seating bench and other tables currently in development.
The Material
The material chosen for the frame is BauBuche – a laminated veneer lumber typically used in structural engineering. BauBuche is extremely strong, allowing for very slim dimensions. This organic material can be processed efficiently by machines, making it ideal for series production. Its unique structure gives each piece a distinct, naturally grained surface.
Metal parts. Steel and aluminium are mainly used in the manufacture of chairs and tables but also for racks. At VS, tubes as well as metal sheets for fronts are generally epoxy-resin powder-coated. In addition to various metal colours , selected products can also be chrome-plated.
Important note. Material and colour charts produced by printing can deviate slightly from the original and the colours are not necessarily exactly true. The same applies to ink-jet or laser prints from PDF files. Information on colour systems (e.g. NCS, RAL, Pantone) are always approximate values.
- M059 arctic ( ≈ RAL 9006 ).
- M063 anthracite.
- M065 black ( ≈ RAL 9011 ).
- M091 white ( ≈ RAL 9016 ).
"VS collaborates with talented architects and designers without creating any hype around it. It's always about the furniture here, not about making a statement."
Stefan Behnisch, Architekt
Stefan Behnisch
Aesthetic, functional, yet uncompromisingly sustainable: the name of architect Stefan Behnisch is a byword for architecture that conserves resources and makes people feel comfortable. What is less well-known is the fact that he has also created furniture systems that are so timelessly appealing and flexible that they last for decades - whether in the German Bundestag or on the other side of the Atlantic.
