Colourful, unusual and innovative: these are the furniture designs of VS's Swedish design partner: Verner Panton. With his colourful designs and our quest for the perfect furniture for school and work, more than just chairs have been created over the past decades.
We create space for new ideas! If you sit comfortably and feel at ease, work becomes even easier. During his lifetime (1926-1998), Verner Panton designed not only revolutionary furniture but also lamps, textiles and complete interior design concepts in the 20th century. Let's get to know our design partner a little better together.
Colour artist, designer or architect? Why not all at once? But from the beginning: Verner Panton began his education at the age of 21 - in 1947 - by studying architecture in Copenhagen. His enthusiasm for colour was already evident at the Royal Academy of Art.
When Pop Art came to Europe from America in the 1950s, it not only touched Verner Panton, it practically ran over him. The bright colours and expressive techniques were reflected in his understanding of art. But as an architect, he did not create paintings or works of art for museums - today you can touch, turn and even sit on his works!
New standards
As an employee of the architecture and design firm Arne Jacobsen, he was involved in the development of the Ant Chair.
First studio
Inspired by his early successes, he bought a VW bus and set off on a tour through Europe. Verner Panton then started his own studio, in which he incorporated his impressions directly - the start of a colourful and significant career.

Verner Panton set new standards in interior design. Our passion is school, office and contract furniture: A perfect symbiosis! He not only designed the space, but also staged it artistically as an overall concept. How did he achieve this? He drew on the whole palette of the rainbow and applied it to all sorts of elements - whether on the walls, the floor or the ceiling, together with the furniture and lamps he arranged, all of which he also designed.
Pantorama
He united light, colours and forms and was celebrated for it not only by the press. In Basel, the Swiss Furniture Fair honoured Verner Panton with the special exhibition "Pantorama", which is named after him.

What do we admire about Verner Panton? That he wasn't afraid of new things - just like us! He had the courage to embrace modern concepts. And he combined them with new technologies. Especially in the 1990s, his designs from the 70s experienced a renewed hype, and so our passion for chairs and the courage to innovate soon brought us together.
More than just hot air
VS introduced the air-cushion chair with seat and back shell made from inflated, double-walled polypropylene. Panton adopted air-cushion technology for his VS chairs.

Verner Panton began to work with us. Together we designed comfortable, amazingly new and innovative chairs. This resulted in the name "Pantoflex", which stands for the highest ergonomic flexibility.

We've been giving you the feeling of freedom since 1994 with our swinging 2nd strike, the jointly developed PantoSwing cantilever chair. The seat of the swinging chair tilts forward. Why? Because it makes much more sense ergonomically and is even more comfortable to sit on. Just one year later, our PantoMove swivel chair for schoolchildren was launched with a dynamic seat - in many colours and with even more advantages:
